From Fleece to Finish: Part I (Video)

I've been thinking about spinning my own wool yarn for several months now, and when I saw some fleece for sale at the Crozet farmer's market this morning, I decided to go for it.

After reading two website pages about working with your own fleece, I decided to wash it relatively soon, rather than storing the unwashed fleece until a later date. So I've begun the process of getting the fleece ready to wash.

This part of the video shows the raw fleece, and how I'm doing some basic cleaning and separating it into bags in preparation of washing. I'm going to keep it in bags to wash it to avoid felting it in the hot water. My next video will document the actual process of washing and drying the wool, at which point it can be stored indefinitely until you feel like carding and spinning it.
