Quarter Mile Uphill

I forgot to note an important milestone for myself yesterday. It was the first time I was able to jog the quarter mile uphill stretch of my 3-mile route without stopping. Often, I try to sprint that section, stopping to catch my breath as required. But yesterday it was humid so I didn't feel much like sprinting, so I decided to just take that section as a jog. To my delight, I was able to keep going past all the places where I usually have to stop, and made it all the way to the top of the hill.

Today I decided to mix up the routine a bit, and put W back on my back. He still weighs the same as he did last summer. It was still a difficult workout to carry him while pushing M in the stroller, although difficult in a different way than I remember from last year (I stopped carrying him regularly last December). The backpack frame didn't feel uncomfortable, even at first (it used to take several minutes of walking before I could no longer notice where the frame rested on me). My back did feel sore, though, and it didn't used to. At least not after months of carrying W. I guess my back has gotten weak again with just pushing and no carrying.

I think I'll try to mix it up more, the pushing versus carrying. Maybe carry on the days I plan on just walking anyway. I don't jog every day, even though we take our walks on most days.
