L'Atelier is a shop in CA that sells fancy yarn and will knit things to order.

I was in their Santa Monica shop last September, and can vouch that the quality of knitted items displayed in the shop was very good although I don't own anything of theirs myself so can't comment on durability, fit, etc. In addition to the fancy yarns they've got a lot of cool buttons, purse handles, embellishments etc. so if you're looking for something not in the catalog, call them to see if they've got it anyway--they said they do a lot of business with people who never go to their shop but just order online or over the phone. I'm not a "member" but I did get a sample of their member newsletter from the shop--it includes knitting patterns and actual samples of their featured yarns stapled in. If I knit more I would be tempted to subscribe since it was an attractive and well put-together product. It's free to get on their email list for sale notifications and new product announcements.

While I was at the shop I did buy a beaded purse handle--theirs are heavier, more durable, and made with more beautiful materials than I've found anywhere else. I paid $33.50 for a handle with an assortment of large beads (1/2" or so) in the ivory/amber/earthtone color-range of various opacities, shapes, and designs. It's in storage until the day sometime "in the future" when I'll actually get around to knitting a purse to felt. . .
